Staycation @ Fullerton Hotel

7:02 pm

This post is too too too late. But better late than never I guess.

So, I had a staycation during the Valentine day weekend and we booked the Valentine day package which included a 1 hour aroma massage for two + access to the executive lounge + 1 night stay at their courtyard room. The total cost after GST was $635! Worth it? Yes, I would said! Afterall Fullerton Hotel is one of the most famous hotel for any Singaporean and even tourists around the world!

A brief history of Fullerton Hotel:
Back then, this used to be the central post office. The top levels were the offices of various Ministry and many leaders have worked here, before it was transformed into a hotel.

Sad to say, the interior of this building had been changed inside out to function as a hotel. However, the exterior stayed the same as you can see from our room in the picture below. The windows are high up and  you can imagine how it used to be with people working in this corner of this building.

We booked the courtyard room because we were planning to go up to the rooftop bar to catch the firework and since we wouldn't spent much of our time in the room we decided not to spend the extra money for a room with a view.

It came with a pillow menu for you to choose the pillow that you prefer and it does offer a huge variety of pillow for you to choose from. Not forgetting the turndown service before bed time.

Although to be honest, I was a bit freaked out to see everything lay nicely on the floor for me after I came back from the massage.

We visited the Executive Lounge for a tea break before the start of our heritage tour. A pity we went there a little too late. The prawn roll was extremely good! But they were not refilling it anymore when I went for a second round. ):

Our tour started at the main entrance of the hotel. Our friendly guide, Florence led us through a one hour tour about the history of Fullerton Hotel. From how it started to the iconic events that happened and the process of how it became the Fullerton Hotel now. Florence was very patient and gave us the answer we needed. :)

The funny thing was, our group consist of 7 adults and 3 kids and we are all Singaporeans. I guessed it wasn't that hard to explain to a group of locals the transition of Singapore and highlight to us the significant years that caused these changes.

Part of the tour was to visit the Lighthouse. Which is now a restaurant in this case. Even at 7th floor, the view outside the window was spectacular. Go up one floor higher, and it will be the rooftop bar that we did not manage to go because the sky was pretty gloomy that day and it drizzled a bit.

Don't forget to post with Mr Postman Bear! Since this used to be the central post office, they labeled this place as mile 0 and decided that this would be the center of Singapore. We have yet to discover how they came to a decision to make this place the center of our country but it was really interesting to learn that.

Also, if you post a letter or a postcard here it actually comes with a fullerton hotel stamp before they mail it out for you! Sadly, ours did not came with the fullerton hotel stamp and we were pretty disappointed. ):

You can also bring home a fullerton bear of your choice! I bought a keychain postman bear as a souvenir for myself!

We woke up early for our breakfast at the lounge and managed to get a late checkout on that day too! The breakfast range from Jap, India, Western and Local cuisine. With my kia-su Singaporean spirit, I have to give everything a try! The Bak Kut Teh is highly commendable! I'm not a fan of peppery Bak Kut Teh. But this is a good mix of pepper and herbs, indeed very refreshing for breakfast!

Lucky for us, when we headed down to the pool it was fairly empty with only two families. So we were able to get a little corner to ourselves in the pool. The pool oversee Asian Civilization Museum and Singapore River despite being surrounded by tall office buildings. It's definitely a breathtaking view for a sunday afternoon.

They do provide towels and sunbeds for tanning, plain water if you're thirsty. Very thoughtful! Oh! Special mention to their bathrobe! IT IS EXTREMELY COMFYYYYYYY! Nope, it's not the normal cloth you usually see. Or the kind of rough material that we usually hate. It was made with very soft and fine towel material, something like cotton and it keeps you really warm the moment you put it on. Maybe it's just me, but I LOVE IT SO MUCH! Their bedroom slipper were made with the same material too!

Overall, you can expect good service, nice smiles, helpful staffs in the hotel. A good spread of food as well!

However, we were pretty horrified when we saw children and bedroom slippers in the executive lounge. My previous experience at other hotel's executive lounge was the opposite. I was told to change out from my bedroom slippers before entering the lounge and children were not allowed as stated on the hotel websites.

Thankfully, the children at our lounge were pretty old so they weren't running around or shouting loudly. That probably helped a lot knowing that we can have a peaceful breakfast. My stay with Fullerton Hotel was pretty memorable and definitely there will be more if I have the chance! Till then!
